Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bio-Zyme?

Bio-Zyme products are a safe, non-toxic live bacteria that augments the natural bacteria already found in the lake.

How does Bio-Zyme fit in the solving the clean water problem?

Bio-Zyme is an essential part of solving the clean water problem by:

  1. It reduces the excess nutrients of phosphorus and nitrogen in lakes and STAs.
  2. It effectivly reduces bottom much and floating tussocks.
  3. It is cost effective by reducing the need to dredge and STA or lake saving money.

How fast does Bio-Zyme work?

Bio-Zyme usually takes 1 - 3 months before improvement is noticeable. The removal of nutrients and reduction of organic material by micro organisms is slow but steady. Once the lake comes back into balance the amout of Bio-Zyme that is applied to the lke can be scaled back application.

What is a Bio-Generator?

The Bio-Generator is the bacteria incubation station. It consists of a large tank where the Bio-Zyme product is added. An aerator in the tank variously agitates the bacteria multiplying it millions of times. A timer signals a pump to release the augmented bacteria product into the water body at precise intervals, The Bio-Generator system is the most efficient and cost effective method to manage excess nutrients, reduce muck on the bottom and improve quality of the water .

Is the water safe to use when applying Bio-Zyme?

Bio-Zyme improves water quality and does not have water restrictions. There are no restrictions on fishing, irrigation, or swimming. No problems for watering livestock either.

Is Bio-Zyme safe?

The microorganisms improve water color and clarity, and enhance the food chain for the fishery. The bacteria in Bio-Zyme is considered safe (Class 1 by American Type Culture Collection) in schools and classrooms.

Is Bio-Zyme harmful to turf when irrigating from Bio-Zyme treated water?

The Bio-Zyme microorganisms used in water are some of the same microorganisms used to improve turf on many golf courses. Bio-Zyme treated water can be used to irrigate turf. The Bio-Zyme microorganism...

Will Bio-Zyme control weeds?

It does not control or kill any weeds. The Bio-Zyme will clean and clear the water improving the aquatic ecosystem. Bio-Zyme does not harm native vegetation in lakes such as bottom grass and spike rush that ae necessary to keeping the lake healthy.

What can Bio-Zyme do for a lake or STA?

Bio-Zyme reduces odor, increases clarity, reduces organic sediments, increases oxygen, reduces chance of fish kills, reduces stratification, decreases N and P, increases fish productivity, increases clam production, snail production, freshwater shrimp, and blood worms (particularly if copper can be eliminated for weed control). Because Bio-Zyme is cost effective it's a great product for public relations.

Is Bio-Zyme equally effective in all Waterways?

It's effective in most all Waterways. More diffucult systems are those with low oxygen, fast-flowing water, high rate of turnover, and some very shallow areas are normally a little tougher to clear up with Bio-Zyme.

Why do the bacteria naturally found in lakes need to be amped up with Bio-Zyme?

Due to factors such as the rapid rise in population and increased agricultural water run off the bacteria naturally found in lakes cannot keep up with the increased nutrient loads. Resulting in in an increase of organic sediment or muck, loss of water clarity, and reduction in aquatic life in the lake.

What size lake can Bio-Zyme System be effectively used?

Bio-Zyme System can effectively be scaled from a small pond to lakes the size of Lake Okeechobee. The Bio-Zyme System used in an storm water area treatment area (STA) reduces the need for costly dredging of muck keeping the STA on-line thus saving money.

Who is using Bio-Zyme?

Currently over 2000 lakes, STA’s and privately owned lakes are cleaning water using the Bio-Zyme System.

How is Bio-Zyme applied?

Bio-Zyme can be applied in three ways:

  1. With Bio-Socks. Bio-Socks are bio-degradable sacks that are filled with the Bio-Zyme product which are tossed into the water body. The Bio-Sock is good for small lakes and ponds.
  2. Bio-Generator System, is the most economical and efficient way to treat large lakes.

A hybrid system where the applicator off loads the Bio-Zyme product into a sprayer and then applies it to the targeted lakes.

What effect does Bio-Zyme have on the copper and other chemicals that I use to treat my lakes?

Bio-Zyme significantly reduces the need for cooper and other chemicals.

Is BioZyme harmful when irrigating from Bio-Zyme treated waters?

The Bio-Zyme microorganisms used in water are some of the same microorganisms used to treat turf grass on many golf courses.

Does Bio-Zyme harm fish?

The simple answer is that Bio-Zyme will not harm fish or other aquatic life. The Bio-Zyme microorganisms improve water color and enhance the food chain. The fish population has increased in most Bio-Zyme treated lakes. There are no restrictions on fishing, irrigation, or swimming. The fish, clam, and snail populations have increased in most Bio-Zyme treated lakes.

Who is the company behind Bio-Zyme?

TRM Biologics is the company behind the Bio-Zyme System

What kind of support can I expect from TRM Biologics?

TRM Biologics is your partner in keeping water clean and healthy. The Bio-Zyme Program was developed by professional lake managers who have over 150 years in experience in solving lake problems. The experts at TRM Biologics will help you design a program, to benefit your waterway. The Bio-Zyme Program will slow or stop the eutrophication of your waterway.

Where does the nutrients of phosphorus and nitrogen go?

Phosphorus and nitrogen are incorporated into the food chain. Bio-Zyme amp flies the existing bacteria at the bottom of the food chain. As the number of bacteria increases the protozoa opulation increase and more phosphorus and nitrogen are taken up as assed on up food chain to fish and other small animals. Within a short time, the nutrients levels drop and the lake comes back into alance.

Is Bio-Zyme an algaecide?

At this point in time we cannot make the claim that Bio-Zyme reduces algae. More research needs to be done between the Bio-Zyme and algae. However, we can claim that Bio-Zyme has proven results in reducing the levels of phosphorus and nitrogen in lakes and that algae needs these nutrients. So no, Bio-Zyme is not an algaecide. Bio-Zyme reduces the nutrients of phosphorus and nitrogen that algae use as food.

Can Bio-Zyme increase the effective life of a Storm Water Treatment Area (STAs)?

Yes, Bio-Zyme can extend the effective life of an STA and can drastically reduce the maintains costs by reducing muck and sediment levels. STAs are expensive to build and maintain and over time sediment layers and floating tussocks build up reducing water flow. The STAs eventually losses the ability to do its job to clean water. Traditionally, mechanical reduction of the muck by dredging would be done to remove the muck. Dredging is expensive, environmentally harsh, and takes the STA off line. Bio-Zyme naturally and effectively reduces the sediment levels and removes excess nutrients at fraction of the cost of dredging.
